I agree with the authors argumentation. Critical thinking is always crucial and it is especially important for the anime genre, as most of the people are using it as pure entertainment media, where they can switch off. It lies in the fans, the so-called Otakus, to preserve the hero pattern (just like George Lucas followed it in Star Wars) and to tell stories where (in this case) hetersexual male protagonists embrace the female in all of its ways, leaving no chance for misogyny.
